Lifestyle Newborn

Look at this nursery! Every single inch of this home was decorated beautifully. Add a perfect, sweet family to the mix and you have a photographer’s dream session. I love photographing newborns in a more natural environment. That’s why I recommend having newborn sessions done in-home. I want to document parents cuddling their baby, as they normally would, capturing a mix of candid and gently posed interactions. And don’t get me wrong, I love studio newborn sessions as well, but I’m not a baby whisperer so I’ll stick to doing documentary style! ;)

Ariya

Ariya

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. I’ve been seeing the hashtag #savethechildren taking social media over by storm. But, I rarely ever see the outrage over the children who are dying every day from cancer. We should be outraged, and we should be speaking up about ALL children who are suffering. Only 4% of the federal budget for cancer research goes towards pediatric cancer. Current treatment options for children are outdated. These kids deserve more than 4% of the funding. They deserve a fighting chance. They deserve treatments that are less toxic.

Cancer is the #1 killer of children by disease.

43 children are diagnosed with cancer each day.

1 out of 5 children will NOT survive.

Over 14,000 children will be diagnosed with cancer THIS MONTH.

Only 4 drugs have been developed specifically for childhood cancer.

Over 100,000 children lose their lives due to cancer.

I met beautiful Ariya in April of last year. Her Mom, Sam, was looking for someone to come to John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, to take some photos for them. They basically lived at the hospital for most of Ariya’s life. Ariya was diagnosed with infant acute lymphoblastic leukemia at just 7 months old. I was nervous to photograph this sweet family. I pictured Ariya to be very sick and fragile, and I was eager to take beautiful photos for them. In reality, she was a happy, spunky ball of energy! After my initial nerves wore off, I laughed so much during my short time with them. We took some photos in the garden directly outside the hospital, and the hospital staff all gathered by the doors to watch Ariya play. You could easily see how much joy she brought to everyone who knew her.

On August 2nd, 2019 after battling cancer for 20 months out of her 27 months of life, Ariya gained her beautiful wings.

I’ve always hesitated to post these photos of Ariya and her parents, because I wanted to be selfless in gifting this session. I wanted them to have these moments of her captured. It was about them. But I’ve been following Sam ever since I met them, and I realize Ariya’s face and Ariya’s story needs to seen, needs to be heard, and needs to be shared.

Family Maternity Session - North Fort Myers

I think this has to be one of my favorite sessions from this location. When the sun sets so golden through the trees in the fern trail, it makes magic! Then just add these adorable clients to the mix, and it’s my new fav. The rust velvet Reclamation dress is part of my client-closet and can be used for both maternity and non-maternity. I know rust and burnt orange is so 2019, but I’ll never get sick of it. It’s one of the prettiest colors to photograph, and adds warmth to the images. The olive green halter dress (from Free People) is also part of my client closet. I highly recommend Free People to my clients who are looking for maternity dresses, because many of their selections have a stretchy mid-section and are super flowy. This location is in North Fort Myers and can be used year-round, but I’d definitely consider it seasonal because the foliage looks different all throughout the year.

Rainy Maternity Session - South Naples, FL

I was so excited to see Heather and her sweet family again for this maternity session! She’s an insanely talented photographer, and a good friend. We were obviously hoping for some nice golden sunlight and an epic sunset, but of course, Mother Nature had other plans. It rained and rained…and rained! From start to finish. Normally, I wouldn’t photograph in the rain. During the summer it isn’t uncommon to have to reschedule due to weather, but Heather and her family traveled all the way from their home in Destin, so rescheduling wasn’t an option! Luckily, with the help of towels and an umbrella, we were able to capture some beautiful photos. I’m honestly so happy with how these photos turned out.

Thankful for this adorable family and their willingness to pose for photos in rain or shine!

Family Session - Fort Myers Beach, FL

This family was a dream to work with! Mom’s stunning dress is from Reclamation (which offers dress rentals for photo sessions). The golden dress is from Joyfolie, which is one of my absolute favorite shops to find dresses for girls and women. I love their outfit coordination. It’s the perfect example of colors that photograph well and compliment each other. Goldenrod, Army green, khaki/tan, and white. Simple, yet perfect. Especially when combined with that golden sunset! - swoons -
